Max Pam: Atlas Monographs

The Perth based photographer’s latest exhibition ATLAS MONOGRAPHS (and book by the same title due for release in May 2008) is a provocative and compelling body of images of people from all over the world… Karakoram, Yemen, Madagascar, Ethiopia, South China Sea, South India, Zanzibar and more. Opening at Sydney’s Byron McMahon Gallery on Wednesday 7 November, the exhibition is a compression of nine travel journals, beginning with Pam’s most recent work (Karakoram 2006) to his very first journals begun in 1970. Pre-dating modern travel based on Lonely Planet Guides, these journals map, through text, photo and marks on paper, his engagement with the cultures he has travelled through.
